Is Halton Hills a City?

Goodness, no. With vast fields and wide open spaces, the majority of Halton Hills is the polar opposite of a city. Georgetown is essentially the downtown core, which is as close to an urban feel as you can get around here. This charming area is home to multiple restaurants, unique shops, and everything you would ever need.

On a map, you’ll find Halton Hills located between Mississauga, Brampton, and Guelph, with the spectacular Niagara Escarpment along the western border. Its convenient location makes it easy to experience the big city when you want to.

Once you’ve had your fill of the noise, crowds, and traffic, you can return to the peaceful bliss that Halton Hills is known for. It truly is the best of all worlds!

We’ve only begun singing the praises of Georgetown and Halton Hills! You’ll discover even more to love in the posts below:

How Far Is Halton Hills From Toronto?

It seems that everything in Canada, or at least Ontario, is measured based on its proximity to Toronto. There’s no point in arguing with tradition, so we might as well play along.

Located mostly to the west and a little to the south, Halton Hills is approximately 55 to 65 km away from Toronto, depending on the route you take. Or, as we Canadians love to say, Halton Hills is about an hour away!

If Toronto is your starting point, simply hop on the Gardiner Expressway, then the 427, then the 401 (or the 407 if you don’t mind the tolls). Exit onto Regional Road 19, and you’ll soon be driving through the charming streets of Georgetown and Halton Hills.

Where Is Halton Region?

Perhaps a better question is, “What is Halton Hills?” Also, is it Halton Hills or Halton region? There is so much more to the area than a single community. Perhaps it doesn’t help that there is more than one location that contains the word “Halton.” (It’s kind of like how there are so many “Yorks” in and near Toronto; North York, East York, York, York Region, etc).

By contrast, Halton is much easier to understand:

Halton Hills as a town first came to life in 1974 when Georgetown, Acton, and Esquesing joined forces and amalgamated into one larger community.

This area consists of rural landscapes dotted by country homes and the occasional farm. Georgetown and Acton are the main population centres. You’ll also find Glen Williams and Ashgrove, along with several other hamlets sprinkled throughout.

The Regional Municipality of Halton is one of the municipalities that make up the massive metropolitan area known as the GTA. Halton region cities include Burlington, Milton, and Oakville. And, of course, Halton Hills, which is decidedly not a city.

Is Halton Hills a Good Place to Live?

Now, we come to the heart and soul of this entire post. Is Halton Hills a nice place to be? It depends on who you ask and what kind of lifestyle you prefer. If you’re a true-blue city slicker who loves the hustle and bustle and you feel uneasy when confronted with the sounds of nature, Halton Hills may be better to visit rather than to put down permanent roots.

As for us, we can’t imagine anywhere else with the lush beauty, sense of community, excitement, and peacefulness that Halton Hills provides. We love it here, and, not that we’re biased, we would tell you that it is the best place on Earth, especially if you want a safe and engaging place to raise a family.
