It’s been a hot dry Summer so far, and there are still 57 days left to soak up the sun! So, if you’re looking for an outdoor spot to beat the heat, we’ve put together a list of our favorite swimming holes nearby, check them out below.
Float the Credit River
If you grew up near Georgetown then it’s likely that you’re familiar with the lazy river between Terra Cotta and Norval! From late spring to fall, if you’re driving by this section of the Credit River, you might spot a convoy of inflatables meandering down river. There are several public access points where you can drop in and either float with the current (make sure you have a second vehicle parked at your end point), or drop anchor and just hang! Note that when the water is low there may be some sections that need to be walked.
- Drop in at the Forge Park in Terra Cotta, there is limited street parking available.
- Drop in at Glen Williams Park, use the small parking area on Confederation Street north of Main, additional parking available by the baseball diamonds across the bridge.
- Drop in on the North side of the River Road bridge across from the Barber Mill, there is limited street parking available.
- Drop in at McNab Park in Norval.

Kelso is not only a great place to go for a hike with it’s beautiful trails along the escarpment, but also offers a sandy beach area with lifeguards on duty during the summer months. Access to the park is by reservation only, so you never have to worry about feeling like a sardine on an over populated beach! Dog’s are not permitted in the beach area, however they are permitted to swim in the area west of the beach.

Elora Quarry
Less than an hour from Georgetown, it’s no surprise that this jaw dropping swimming hole has become so popular it now requires visitors to purchase advanced tickets online. Surrounded by 40 foot high cliffs, the crystalline pool is as refreshing as it gets! There are also some hiking trails and picnic areas to enjoy while you’re here, but make sure to leave Fido at home, as dogs are restricted from the park.
