Georgetown community in Halton Hills

About Georgetown

To start with, a gorgeous location along the Niagara Escarpment and Credit River provides the backdrop for some truly impressive scenery! If that’s not enough, there are also three access points to the Bruce Trail (Canada’s longest and oldest-marked footpath), one at Scotsdale Farm off Trafalgar Road, at Limehouse Conservation Area, and another at Silver Creek Conservation Area.

Georgetown Lifestyle

Access to nature makes Georgetown the perfect spot for anyone who loves the great outdoors but also doesn’t want to be too far from the quaint shops and unique restaurants you can only find in a small town. The hidden fashion treasures, gourmet foods, and other culinary delights offered within the Georgetown BIA are unmatched by any big city.

Watch out, Toronto! Georgetown even has its own Go Station. Residents here can easily commute to enjoy all the restaurants, shopping, shows, music events, and sports games in the GTA without worrying about traffic.

Even better, you’ll have a peaceful, scenic, charming hometown to come back to. It’s the perfect balance of calmness and excitement; you choose your experience of the day. Here are just a few activities you’ll enjoy right in town.

Georgetown Points of Interest

Art lovers will quickly fall in love with the Helson Gallery in the downtown core. Rotating and travelling exhibitions offer something new to experience with every single visit. Plus, there’s more to do than admire breathtaking works of art. With a variety of programming and workshops, you might just discover a hidden talent of your own.

Just when you thought the scenery couldn’t be more beautiful or idyllic, along comes Old Seed House Gardens. This 1.8-acre public space was created in honour of the former Dominion Seed Greenhouse, and it has a vibe that is almost magical. A natural paradise of colourful floral beds, winding pathways, and a naturalized pond welcomes residents and visitors 365 days a year. Did we mention that there are also concerts in the garden every summer? Best of all, it’s free admission!

Do you love live entertainment? The John Elliott Theatre is the venue of choice for TIFF films, musicals, plays, concerts and more. It’s located inside the Halton Hills Library & Cultural Centre for added convenience, and you can even rent the theatre for a production of your own. Close proximity to shops and restaurants means you can really make a day of the next production. With only 267 seats, each performance feels intimate and unforgettable, and the acoustics are outstanding thanks to the wide proscenium.

Georgetown Events

You don’t have to be a Scot to celebrate Scottish heritage! Regardless of your ancestry, you can be a “Scot for a Day” during the Georgetown Highland Games! Every second Saturday in June at the Georgetown Fair Grounds, you’ll enjoy music that lifts your soul, admire highland dance performances, shop a variety of vendors and artisans, or take part in some energetic and lighthearted competitions. The laughs are many, and the Scottish fare is unforgettable. Children’s activities include a bouncy castle, face painting, and balloon artists.

One of our favourite events, the Georgetown Farmer’s Market, is about to take over Main Street. It happens every Saturday from June to the middle of October. Here’s your chance to browse the best Ontario produce and gourmet foods courtesy of local farmers, the lovingly-made products from the region’s best artisans and crafters, and partake in the live entertainment. Best of all, you’ll get a sense of our close-knit and welcoming community.

Light Up the Hills will lift your spirits every holiday season! ‘Tis the time of year when Dominion Gardens Park hosts a walk-through light-up extravaganza. Admission is free, but you can support the event and win big on Ignition Night through one of their raffles or the 50/50 draw. The sights are stunning, but the festive welcome is even warmer and brighter, making this one of our most cherished events.

Georgetown Real Estate

Old Georgetown is located near Main Street and Church Street, minutes away from the BIA. As one of the most walkable areas in the region, residents can get to stores and shops while taking in the gorgeous scenery. This neighbourhood boasts incredible architecture and beautiful, historic houses.

Delrex and Moore Park were developed from the 1950s to the 1960s and consist of bungalows and two-storey homes, many with generously sized lots. For a more modern neighbourhood, look to Georgetown South, which began development in 1989.

A diverse landscape provides a variety of real estate options, from well-maintained century homes and mid-century modern designs to custom-built and contemporary houses.

Fun fact: Georgetown has famously been home to several NHL hockey players over the years, including Bob Goldhan, Jason Dickinson, MacKenzie Entwistle, Adam Bennett, and Lucas Condotta. Sarah Fillier, of Professional Women’s Hockey League fame was also born here, which unofficially makes us the hockey capital of the region. If you live here, you’re in good company!
